Apple has finally rolled out the much-awaited iOS 15 update for iPhones. Unveiled at the 2021 World Wide Developers Conference, iOS 15 brings tons of updates and new features to iPhones. Although the new operating system is available for older iPhone models too, few features of iOS 15 are limited to the models launched by the company in the last two years.
The latest update for iPhone models brings some notable changes such as redesigned Safari browser interface, group FaceTime call support outside Apple ecosystem, new Memojis, Focus mode and many more but the feature most of the iPhone users are excited about is Live Text.
Live Text is a feature that recognises information using camera and saved images. It allows users to send an email, make a call and even look for directions on maps by just accessing the text in the camera frame or any image saved in the gallery. This feature also gives users the power to translate text from an image to another language. Currently, Live Text works in seven languages – English, Chinese, French, Italian, German, Portuguese and Spanish. This feature is only available for Apple iPhones launched after 2018 or above iPhone XS. Here is how you can use Live Text feature on Apple iPhone:
Using the Live Text feature to copy text from images
To copy text from any images, you have to select an image from Photos app or on a browser. After you have selected an image, you just have to tap and hold on the text that you want to copy. Once you tap on text you’ll be able to see grab points to adjust your selection. You’ll be able to see the copy option once you’ve made your selection. To highlight all the text in an image you can tap at the indicator icon at the bottom-right corner of the image.
Using the Live Text feature to send an email or make a call
Live Text has the ability to recognise a phone number and email address. If you want to use the phone number in any image in the Photos app or online, you can just tap on the phone number and the Live Text feature will show you an option to call, send message, FaceTime or copy that number. When you tap on an email address in an image, the new feature shows you the option to send a mail.
Using the Live Text feature to translate a text
Once you select text in any image, you will be able to see the Translate option next to Look Up. After you tap on Translate, you’ll see an option to select the language in which you want to translate the text. You can also copy translated text to use in any other application.
