How Instagram Reels may be ‘impacting’ your Facebook account – Times of India

July 29, 2021

Instagram Reels seems to have really taken off. The head of Instagram recently said that videos — mainly Reels — is what Instagram will be focusing on. Now, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has also said that videos is what Facebook users are consuming.
Zuckerberg during the company’s quarterly earnings call said that “video now accounts for almost half of all time spent on Facebook.” Meanwhile, on Instagram Reels is the “largest contributor to engagement growth.” Zuckerberg has always said that all Facebook-owned platforms will become ‘one’, in the sense that they will share features and drive engagement. The Reels impact seems to be on Facebook as videos are what users have been consuming on the platform. For a platform that had started off for text and image sharing, Facebook has come a long way into videos. The trend has been growing mainly since Instagram has slowly graduated to a more video-oriented platform.
Facebook reported strong growth in the quarter as it posted revenues in excess of $29 billion. The revenue has increased almost 56% when compared to the same quarter in 2020. Facebook also said it has more than 3.5 billion active users across the world on its platforms.
“We had a strong quarter as we continue to help businesses grow and people stay connected,” said Zuckerberg. “I’m excited to see our major initiatives around creators and community, commerce, and building the next computing platform coming together to start to bring the vision of the metaverse to life.”
The metaverse Zuckerberg mentioned is the company’s ambitious project of creating a virtual world that people can inhabit at the same time. The metaverse will be hugely dependent on virtual reality and augmented reality technologies.
