iPhone users, reasons why you could wait to install Apple iOS 15 – Times of India

September 21, 2021

NEW DELHI: Apple unveiled its iPhone 13 series, Apple Watch Series 7 and new iPads last week (September 14) at its California Streaming event. At the same event, the company announced that iOS 15 — its operating system for iPhones — will arrive on September 20.
The new iOS 15 software (also iPadOS 15 for iPads) offers several new features including ability to do FaceTime calls with Android users, upgrades for Apple Maps, new notification experience, tools that reduce distraction, complete redesign for Safari and more.
While iOS15 and iPadOS features are interesting as well as useful, it may make sense for iPhone and iPad users to wait for sometime before going for the new OS. Here are 5 reasons why you should not rush into downloading the update.
iOS 15 won’t be ‘flawless’ at launch
Even though this is the first public version of iOS 15 and it has been through several beta versions, some odd bugs always find their way to the public version. During the iOS14 launch, the initial version reverted some users’ default browser and mail apps every time the device got a reboot.
Glitches and other small technical issues like this have already emerged in the iPadOS 15 and iOS 15 beta versions. Though these glitches don’t stop you from using your devices completely, they still can get irritating.
There may be app ‘crashes’
Some of the testers of the iOS 15 beta version reportedly said that the third build of the iOS 15 was a bit buggy. Apps kept on crashing on a regular basis and the keyboard on the iPad Pro stopped working just randomly. We are pretty sure that the developers have likely identified and addressed most of the issues. However, it’s not a bad idea to wait and see how it responds in the early days.
Downgrading to iOS 14 will be difficult
Release of a new iOS is totally different from security updates, but it’s a crucial distinction to make. Make sure the device is ready before you decide to install iOS 15. As it’s not impossible but tough to go back to the previous version of the OS.
How long should you wait
Looking again at the iOS 14 example, the bug with default apps was resolved within a week. Look out for this window: wait for a week, maybe two if you are super cautious, then update the iOS. Most of the initial issues in the new version and the bugs for individual apps are dealt with within a couple of weeks.
