Camera brand Leica has forayed into the smartphone market with the launch of the Leitz Phone 1. The smartphone has been priced 187,920 yen (approx $1,700) and has launched in Japan only as a Softbank-exclusive limited edition phone.
The Leica Leitz Phone 1 is similarly specced as the Sharp Aquos R6 and has the same 6.6-inch 240Hz IGZO OLED display and the 1-inch 20MP sensor underneath a 7-element “Summicron” Leica lens. The camera bump comes protected by a magnetic cover.
The phone differs from the Sharp Aquos R6 in design where Leica brings its signature Red Dot design to the camera setup. The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 and packs in a 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage that can be expanded to 1TB via microSD. Leica has given the smartphone a 5000mAh battery.
The preorder for the Leica Leitz Phone 1 will start tomorrow for Japan-based buyers, with the deliveries expected in July. There is no confirmation as to the India release of the device.
