Google has announced the Locked Folder in Photos will soon arrive on all Android devices running version 6 and higher. The feature allows users to hide selected photos and videos from the app’s main grid search and “apps that access your device photos.”
Locked Folder in Photos was announced at Google I/O 2021 in June. It was then released exclusively on new Pixel phones. Google has now confirmed that the Locked Folder in Photos will come to devices running Android 6.0 and newer. The tech giant, however, has not revealed the exact date as to when the feature will be released to all Android devices.
What is Google Photos Locked Folder feature?
As mentioned above, the feature enables users to hide photos and videos that they don’t want others to see in the app’s main grid. It is a passcode-protected space where select photos can be saved separately.
Photos and videos added to the Locked Folder will not be backed up or shared. A user can open these photos/videos from the “Library” tab > “Utilities” > “Locked Folder”. When inside this secure space, users will not be able to take screenshots as well. Users can perform only two actions for such photos. They can either delete them permanently or move them out of the Locked Folder.
“With Locked Folder in @googlephotos, you can add photos to a passcode protected space and they won’t show up as you scroll through photos or other apps on your phone. Locked Folder is launching first on Google Pixel, and more Android devices throughout the year,” Google said in a tweet earlier.
